ON NATO AND EU
Presentation of the large-scale project of the Information Center

The presentation of the project “Increasing Regional Outreach and Engagement Over Western Integration” was held at Information Center on NATO and EU on 22 October.

The United States Department of State has allocated half a million US dollars as a grant for the Government of Georgia to strengthen the country’s strategic communications. The grant was given to the Information Center on NATO and EU, which will ensure raising public awareness about the benefits of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration process throughout the country.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia David Zalkaliani and Acting U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Elisabeth Rood delivered speeches during the presentation. The project was presented by Director of Information Center on NATO and EU Nino Bolkvadze.

Representatives of Diplomatic Corps, international organizations, governmental agencies and civil society attended the event.

The eighteen-month project is aiming at public engagement and provision of objective and comprehensive information on Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration to the population in ten regions of Georgia through enhancing the Center’s regional capacity, and increasing media coverage of the above mentioned topics via a network of regional broadcasters, print, and web-media.

This is the first large-scale project, which was granted for the Government of Georgia to counter anti-western propaganda, by raising public awareness on European and Euro-Atlantic integration process.

The first component will focus on increasing the Center’s regional capacity. This includes expansion of geographic coverage of the Center’s bureaus to cover all ten regions of Georgia (the Center currency covers 7 regions); 5 new regional bureaus of Information Center will be opened in the regions. The second component of the project will focus on increasing media coverage of the abovementioned topics via a network of regional broadcasters, print, and web-media.

The project will be conducted by LEPL Information Center on NATO and EU, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, with the financial support of The United States Department of State and the Embassy of the United States in Georgia.
